Battelle Considering New 200 Room Hotel in Columbus Near its Campus

New proposal for Battelle property includes apartments, hotel, park

As Battelle considers proposals for a good chunk of property near its Columbus campus, the latest idea would focus on retired Ohio State and Battelle employees.

But the Slane Company, and the former OSU trustee who runs it, may have come to the game too late.

Gahanna-based Slane is pitching the $200-million concept to Battelle, which wants to sell 15 acres just east of the Olentangy River so it can invest the proceeds into the Battelle campus.

Slane’s proposal calls for:

  • 380 apartments for retirees, including 80 assisted-living units
  • A 200-room hotel along W. 5th Avenue
  • A 128-unit market-rate apartment building
  • A 3.5-acre park at the southern part of the property. Harrison West residents had wanted to see some of the land preserved as a park.
